How to erect a simple 10,000 barrel fuel/water tank
(simple my AS_)

Brought to you by those good folks of the
697th Engineer Company (Pipeline)

Tank farm at NKP 1967 According to the good old reliable military manual the approximate time to erect a 10,000 barrel storage tank is 7 days. Remember that this time is under ideal weather conditions, having the proper tools/parts and the correct number of people. Since we could not meet any of the conditions as stated, we were lucky if it was up in a month
Laying the floor  .As you can see in the photo, the floor has to go down first. Many fingers, toes (if your not wearing your steel toed shoes) and other parts receive bumps, bruises, scrapes, cuts...well, you get the picture...during this..well, during all phases of this operation.
(Is there one supervisor for each worker?)
Up goes 1st Ring  Up goes more staves to make the rings. Using a small host crane and a lot of muscle you've got it made. It's almost like putting a plastic model together...just follow the directions..."Place 1st piece here, second piece there..well, almost.

Up goes the 3rd ring  I guess you get the picture..there are 3 rings, then the top goes on
Up goes the center pole   The roof needs someting to hold it up..guess this will do.
Hey..the crows nest.   Yes, they have these on ships too...called the Crows Nest.
(this is where you watch to see if everyone else is working)
Roof Cross Section  Get these suckers lined up so the roof will fit....maybe
Tank roof   The roof is a very busy job...must be thousands of these things to tighten up... Sure wish we had air ratchets way back then!
